Stockton police finally have their first real crack at the birthday party mass shooting that has plagued the city for more than two months.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office released surveillance images Saturday showing what they believe were two light-colored cars carrying the gunman who killed four people at a child’s birthday party on Nov. 29.
Surveillance images show what investigators believe were two sedans transporting the gunman to and from the scene. The vehicle images are the first concrete evidence shared publicly since the shooting.
The release marks the first major development since the investigation began going nowhere.
The Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that “detectives have been working hard to identify and locate the suspect” and asked anyone who recognizes the vehicles to come forward immediately.
The breakthrough comes after weeks of deadlock in a case that has rocked Stockton to its core. A gunman used five different weapons to fire at least 50 rounds at a 2-year-old child’s birthday celebration at the Monkey Space event hall, killing three children and one adult and injuring 13 others.
According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, the targets of the shooting were local rappers MBNel and Fly Boy Dougie, who were attending a party for the daughter of rapper NanoMB. MBNel broke its silence last month, issuing a heartfelt statement on Instagram mourning the victims.
“My deepest condolences go out to the families who had to bury their children and the innocent lives lost,” he wrote. “What happened in Stockton has caused an unimaginable loss to the family.”
The rapper emphasized respect for the grieving family, adding: “This is about the family and no one else. I choose to act quietly and intentionally out of respect. I won’t go into details or speculate.”
Fly Boy Dougie, real name Billy Williams, was arrested for a parole violation after attending a party. The documented Flyboy gang member admitted violating parole in court and was sentenced to 180 days in jail. Judge Katy Jacot revoked and reinstated his parole at a hearing in December.
NanoMB, whose government name is Luciano Guerrero, faces more serious consequences. The 22-year-old father who threw his daughter’s birthday party was arrested for violating parole, but his application for bail was rejected.
Authorities identified him as an active member of the Asian Boyz and Muddy Boyz gangs. The party was supposed to celebrate the birthday of Guerrero’s 2-year-old daughter, but multiple gunmen opened fire just before 6 p.m.
Sheriff Patrick Withrow said the attack began inside the banquet hall and continued outside.
The victims included Maya Lupian, 8; Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, 8; Amari Peterson, 14; and Susano Archuleta, 21. Amari’s father, Patrick Peterson, described the terrifying moment he discovered his son had been shot in the chest and tried to perform CPR on him.
“He had a gunshot wound above his heart,” Peterson told ABC affiliate KXTV. “This is something a father should never have to go through.”
The investigation stalled for weeks, with no arrests made and no suspect description released. Authorities described the shooting as a “targeted attack” but declined to discuss a motive or provide details about the ongoing investigation.
There is a $130,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of this case. Rewards are being offered from multiple sources to help solve the fatal shooting.
