Anchorage, Alaska-based emcee Duckman released his debut full-length album A Bag Boy Story: Welcome to the East in the summer of 2016, after rising to fame in the Alaska hip-hop scene via Black Soprano Family Records. A mixtape. He subsequently released 3 more LPs in The Adventures of Quack Poppa, Off the Grid and Off the Grid 2 before signing with B$F in early 2024 and introducing himself as Black on BARS Murre’s comeback effort Jewelry Store Shootouts Soprano Eskimo.
INTRODUCTION Let’s start with a symphonic trap instrumental to tell anyone who has never been to Alaska without experiencing 20 Hours of Darkness and that he is no ordinary million dollar man and that ” “Ghetto Gospel” features a mix of ghostly samples and hi-hats talking about being the heir to the throne. “Karma” takes the soulful trap route, cleverly talking about trying to get some paper out of the way, leading to “The Cost of Being a Boss”‘s energetic braggadocio.
“I Did” has a hint of Detroit trap, an admission that he wasn’t proud of much of what he did even though he was in business before the tape’s only single, “MCM (Money Counter Music).” It’s a nice ode to digital bread. “Cullinan” starring Sauce Walka continues the soul sampling talking about losing it all only to regain it, while the cloudy trap fusion “Vlad TV” starring Bonni Drip continues to run with it and it’s recommended not to get involved.
Fuego Base and Heem both joined Duckman’s penultimate track “High Noon,” which told a true story of violence and brutality surrounding the real Sopranos, but then “Locked,” starring Benny the Butcher and Rowdy Rebel, rightly Ending this high-energy Brooklyn performance with Black Soprano Eskimo and the Trio talking about knowing people who ended up in jail for making big bucks, Butcher’s verse in the middle was my favorite of the two guests.
Quite possibly the most exciting artist I’ve heard in the Alaska hip-hop scene so far is Duckman, who elevated himself to a higher level as an artist with his official B$F debut here. Black Soprano Eskimo’s voice has a bit of a prominent trap sound with an extra element of Detroit trap, Brooklyn drill and a hint of Boom Bop, discussing where he is now and his life involved in the largest cocaine bust in Alaska history .
