There’s been a lot of talk about The Fall-Off being J. Cole’s last album, and he’s mentioned it a few times but never really confirmed that it was still his intention. When he revealed the album’s tracklist, he mentioned that he created the album with the intention of being his final album, which sounds like that’s his approach and not something he’s so committed to.
But in an AMA held on his Inevitable website, he provided more details.
One fan asked us if we’d like to hear more music for him, and his answer was honest. He said he had a “real love” for music and that he was inspired, but more so on the production side. He clarified that he has “no interest in making more” J. Cole “albums,” but that his passion now is making music. He went on to say that “The Fall Off” isn’t something he won’t try to top, but that he will write and record it when it touches him.
It seems like he’s in retirement mode when it comes to rapping, for lack of a better term, but he wants to collaborate with other artists and produce for them, like he’s been doing for a long time now. In the early 2010s, he was vocal about wanting to produce a full album for Wale.
Check out his full response below and the AMA here.
I have a genuine love for music and the lucky thing about dropping this album is that I was so inspired. I have no interest in making more “J. Cole” albums, but my passion and excitement right now is in producing. When I think about it, I write it down, I record it. Release new music if the soul allows it. But The Fall-Off is a project I wouldn’t try to top.
