Drake has been having a bad week so far. The rapper’s YouTube video for his latest Kendrick Lamar take, “The Heart Part 6,” has more likes than dislikes. On May 7, a shooting also occurred at his mansion in Toronto. Drake’s dangerous encounter was widely reported in Canadian local news. The problem is, the anchor reporting the story made a huge mistake when it came to mentioning him.
Eyewitness News ABC7 reported the report. The footage was uploaded to the network’s YouTube channel, where people could immediately hear the sound of the error. The anchor tried to set up the shooting scene before handing it off to on-site reporter Dara Myers, but he stuttered when describing what Drake did for a living. Instead of pointing out that Drake is a professional “rapper,” the anchor incorrectly stated that he is a “rapper.” “There were a lot of questions tonight,” he said. “About a security guard being shot outside a rapist’s mansion…the rapper, should I say, Drake.” Money.

It was a shockingly embarrassing moment. Especially when one considers the accusations leveled against Drake over the past few weeks. Much of Kendrick Lamar’s comments are based on the notion that Drake is a pedophile who traffics in young women. He rapped about it on “Meet the Grahams” and doubled down on the accusation on “Not Like Us.” The latter is particularly egregious, with lines about Drake dealing with sex offenders and beating up “minors” at his OVO camp.
To be clear, Drake has completely denied the accusations. He responded to them with the above-mentioned “The Heart Part 6”. He said Lamar was lying and dismissed the Compton rapper’s claims as “false” information. “If I were truly a predator, you would be a worthy competitor,” he says at the end of the song. “And you didn’t fucking lie to every blogger and editor.” Lamar has yet to provide evidence to back up his claims. Whatever the truth, the ABC News anchor’s misstep won’t benefit Drake in the court of public opinion.
