Kanye West has lost the interest of some fans and peers in recent years due to his controversial comments and actions. Ye’s longtime collaborator Pusha T talked about why the polarizing rapper still manages to work with big stars.
Kanye West angered some African Americans by suggesting chattel slavery was a choice and promoting White Lives Matter shirts. He was also hotly debated by members of the Jewish community. West threatened “death hoax 3” against Jews and praised Adolf Hitler.
“I believe that being with someone like Ye brings a level of visibility. At the end of the day, it’s the musicality and genius-level production that comes with having him around,” Pusha T told Complex.
Additionally, the “My Name Is My Name” album creator said, “So, I think artists get a lot out of being around him right now. I mean, you get it. You get a lot out of it.”
Kanye West recently teamed up with R&B singer Ty Dolla $ign to release their Vultures 1 collaborative studio LP. The album stars Nipsey Hussle, Quavo, Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, Rich The Kid, Chris Brown and more.
Pusha T has collaborated with Kanye West extensively throughout his music career. The Clipse member signed with West’s GOOD Music and eventually became president of the label. Push and Ye also appear together on songs such as “Runaway” and “New God Flow”.
“For me, it’s all about music, just making music on a certain level,” Pusha said in the interview. “I’ve been playing this game for a long time, so I wanted to make some type of hip-hop music. Honestly, Ye definitely knows what I like to do, and I just want to be a part of what I want to do.
