Jelly Roll showcased his ongoing transformation during an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards this week, reflecting on his journey to improving his emotional, physical and mental health. The 39-year-old rapper-turned-country star detailed the joy he felt after proudly running his first 5K race.

“I’m just doing everything I can to get better emotionally, physically, spiritually,” he shared with a smile. “I just want to be a better person.”
In 2015, Jelly Roll passed 500 pounds, and his story stands in stark contrast to his current state.
The turning point came when comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura invited him to participate in the 5K By May event on May 7 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. His journey began with a heartfelt video posted on Instagram in January, in which he declared: “Baby, hit the 5K by May. Hit the 5K by May. I’m serious, Burt. I mean Really, Bert.
To meet the challenge, Jelly Roll commits to a rigorous training regimen that includes daily walks and runs. The regimen has helped him lose about 70 pounds since January. He walks two to three miles a day, four to six days a week, plus saunas and cold baths, supplemented by a nutritious diet.
“I feel incredible,” Jelly Roll said. “I’ve never felt so awake, so calm, so present. It’s really cool, man. It’s like I’ve never been more involved in anything I’ve done.
Jelly Roll’s goals aren’t limited to the upcoming competition. Still eager to lose another 100 pounds before embarking on his tour later this year, he’s celebrating his progress and newfound energy.
