DMC and Idina Menzel team up for a major New York charity event that raises more than $1 million for foster youth and young artists.
DMC and Idina Menzel just proved that hip-hop and Broadway can join forces to create something greater than just entertainment.
Last week, the two icons hosted a “Celebrate This Way” charity event in New York, bringing in more than $1 million to their respective organizations that serve foster youth and young artists.
The night wasn’t just about the money, either. It’s about showing kids that when you have mentors who truly care about you, anything is possible.
The Felix Organization, which DMC co-founded in 2006 with casting director Sheila Jaffe, has been running camps for foster children across the country for two decades.
BroaderWay is a nonprofit organization founded by Menzel in 2010 dedicated to amplifying women’s voices through the arts. Last summer they teamed up to launch Camp Felix A BroaderWay in New York, and the event was their way of celebrating what they had built together.
“This is a great collaboration of performance and music, and even closer collaboration between our organizations working together to serve our foster youth,” DMC told PEOPLE.

Menzel added that sharing the stage with the hip-hop legend made everything even more powerful, saying his energy and commitment to inspiring young people was absolutely palpable.
The real magic happens when the campers take the stage. The young people performed spoken word, sang, and danced as DMC and Menzel watched on with genuine smiles from the crowd.
Competition in the auction segment quickly became fierce. People paid top dollar for the chance to sing with both of them.
Menzel performed a stripped-down version of “Defing Gravity” from “Wicked” and ended with a duet of “For Good” that had the room in tears. DMC followed with “It’s Tricky” and “Walk This Way,” transforming the Tribeca rooftop into a complete concert experience.
The two organizations are already planning their next steps to expand Camp Felix A BroaderWay programming for the summer of 2027.
