Yeat has announced a double album, ADL , featuring an all-star cast including Elton John in a rare hip-hop collaboration.
Yetter just accomplished something that got the entire industry talking, and he did it in a way only he knows how.
The rap pioneer announced his upcoming double album, A Dangerous Lyfe/A Dangerous Love, with a full-page spread in The New York Times, and the feature list reads like a who’s who of music royalty.
Elton John, NBA Youngboy, Don Toliver, Kid Cudi, 070 Shake, Grimes and Rampa are all involved in the project, which will be released on Friday, March 27th. It’s not just an album announcement, it’s a statement of the artistic direction of Yeat, and it’s a massive one.
Elton John’s involvement makes this collaboration particularly rare.
The legendary singer-songwriter has historically distanced himself from hip-hop, despite showing a genuine respect for the culture over the years.
Elton John’s hip-hop collaborations have been selective and meaningful, from his work with Young Thug on “High” to his appearances on Kanye West’s “All of the Lights” and Eminem’s live version of “Stan.”
His willingness to participate in Yate’s project signals something more important than a typical guest verse. It’s a collaboration between one of music’s most respected figures and a new generation of boundary-pushing artists.
Yate has been building momentum throughout the year with his shocking marketing campaigns.
In February, commuters in New York City spotted a prosthetic leg hanging outside a taxi with a “LYFE IS DANGEROUS” sticker on the bumper.
He hosted Twizz City Night at Portland Trail Blazers games and released the first visual trailer for ADL, which recast him as “the most dangerous man alive.”
The New York Times ad is the next step in this effort, and it’s working.
The album will mark his boldest era yet, especially considering his last project LYFESTYLE debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling over 89,000 equivalent album units.
