J. Cole is set to release his magnum opus The Fall-Off next week, and pretty much all we know about the album is that he’s been working on it for a decade, and it’s a double-disc album. Fans have been replaying the new songs we’ve received for a while, but their ears perked up when Jadakiss revealed that Cole also recorded a mixtape in which he covers Black Rob’s “Can I Live” and The LOX’s “Money, Power & Respect.”
Ever since hearing the news, fans have been speculating whether we might get a new tape on his birthday (January 28th) and whether it would be “It’s A Boy.” While none of these theories are confirmed, we do have some exciting news.
Last week, fans noticed four untitled tracks on thefalloff.com, which were quickly removed. Now, in the past few hours, people have noticed that there are multiple track names on J. Cole’s EVEN link. They are: “Seti Freestyle”, “Winter Storm Freestyle”, “Golden Goose Freestyle” and “Bronx Zoo Freestyle”. You may remember that EVEN were how we originally got the extra songs from the deluxe edition of 2014’s Forest Hills Drive before they appeared on the streamer, plus EVEN powered his Inevitable podcast series, so it looks like they’ve let the secret slip ahead of time.
Another page there calls the set of tracks a “Monday Night Mixtape,” so maybe that’s something we get on February 2, or it could be a working title and the tape could be released tonight to celebrate Cole’s 41st birthday. Who knows? Regardless, it looks like we’ll be getting some new freestyles sooner or later.
