Tom Hardy returns to hip-hop with a full-length collaboration with CZARFACE, transforming his once-secret rap self into a full-length project.
Tom Hardy is about to release his first full-length rap album, and he’s bringing one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets to the forefront. He is working with CZARFACE, one of the most popular underground bands.
The project, Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer, will be released on August 28 and marks Hardy’s most ambitious musical release to date under his rap alter ego Frankie Pulitzer. For the record, he was also known as “Face Puller.” Method Man, Busta Rhymes and EL-O also appear on the album.
Over the past few years, Hardy has quietly established credibility in the underground scene through a series of collaborations with CZARFACE. The team consists of Inspectah Deck, 7L and Esoteric. He recently appeared on songs from the band’s Good Guys Bad Guys EP and has contributed to Czarmgeddon and Czartificial Intelligence. Some of the music even appeared in the “Venom” movies.
The news comes alongside The Brothers Grimm, which continues its penchant for gritty, boom-paced production and dense rhyme schemes.
Hardy is an A-list actor primarily known for his performances in films such as The Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road, Legend and the Venom franchise. But his connection to hip-hop goes back to before Hollywood.
Hardy began rapping as a teenager under the name Tommy One and spent several years recording music. He was influenced by the underground rap movement in New York in the late 1990s. Eventually acting became his main focus.
In 2018, his long-time collaborator Edward Tracy uploaded an unfinished mixtape he had recorded years earlier. The 1999 album Falling on Your A### introduced fans to Hardy’s early lyrical style.
The upcoming album represents the first time Hardy has fully embraced this side of himself in a major collaborative project.
For CZARFACE, the collaboration continues the group’s tradition of blending comic book mythology, poignant lyricism and unexpected twists.
