Ghana’s Michael Owusu Addo, aka Sarkodie, just secured another major nod. The rap icon earned a nomination for Best West African Hiphop at the Africa Golden Awards 2026, announced via Instagram by event organizers.
The nomination recognizes his “consistent flow and profound lyrics” and his 2026 releases, which have garnered millions of streams. He’s up against fellow West African giants in a category that also highlights him as a Best Western Africa Entertainment Icon.
Sarkodie’s 2019 album Black Love and recent 2026 drops keep him relevant a decade-plus in. Often dubbed “Africa’s Rap King,” his Twi-English delivery and global collabs continue pushing Ghanaian hip-hop worldwide.
