According to DJ Akademiks, Drake waited 10 years to diss Kendrick Lamar.
Drake has been waiting for a fight with Kendrick Lamar for a while
On Tuesday (April 24), Ak premiered his recent interview with Adam 22 and Trap Lore Ross on the Off the Record podcast. During the conversation (shown below), Ak revealed that Drizzy has been waiting to go head-to-head with K-Dot for some time.
“From what he told me, he’s been waiting for 10 years,” Ak says at the 53:45 mark in the interview below. “He observed this pattern. He specifically told me, ‘Yo, I’ve seen this guy do the same bait and change it every time. He wrote a verse that people were hyping up, and people were like, ‘Oh, he Coming to you. I’m always ready to defend myself, I’m always ready to engage…and then he disappears and nothing happens.
Acker added, “You can tell he wants the showdown to happen now rather than for everyone to go back to their corners and reconvene. He wants the showdown now.”

Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef explained
Drake and Kendrick Lamar initially had a friendly relationship, as the rappers both appeared on each other’s second albums. In 2013, K-Dot dropped his well-known “Control” verse, signaling for the first time that he viewed Drake (and the rest of the rap game) as more of a competition. Over the next few years, both artists gave up on each other’s subconscious.
However, things came to a head after Drake and J. Cole collaborated on the 2023 single “First Person Shooter.” Apparently K-Dot was outraged by the subliminal shots in the song, having gone off on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” last month, mocking Drake and Cole. It’s been on the rise ever since, with Drake releasing two diss songs aimed at Kendrick with “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle.” Kendrick has yet to respond.
