Will Smith has emphasized that “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” the upcoming fourth chapter of the beloved franchise, is its own standalone and not just a celebratory return.
In an interview with Extra’s Melvin Roberts, Smith reiterated the film’s merits, not just nostalgia.
“We agreed after Bad Boys 2 that we would never return to this series without a worthy story,” Will Smith said. “We want this movie to survive on its own merits and not just be a victory lap because people like it.”
Will Smith has revealed that he and co-star Martin Lawrence are committed to creating an authentic cinematic experience.
“Martin was on day one of the movie, and he stopped me and said, ‘No, no, no — we’re not going to rush through this movie. We’ve already finished part four, so we’re going to go through it in detail. Savor every second of it,” Smith added.
Martin Lawrence echoed Smith’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of authenticity.
“We don’t want to launch something just to grab money,” Lawrence said.
The two actors’ friendship dates back to their first appearance in the original “Bad Boys” in 1995, and they have maintained a strong friendship for decades.
Lawrence spoke positively of Smith’s development as an artist.
“I’ve watched his growth from Fresh Prince to movies and everything he’s accomplished. It’s really impressive,” he said.
Will Smith also expressed his admiration for Lawrence’s sincere nature.
“As far as Martin is concerned, you know how honest and open his heart is? It seems like there’s no pretense on this guy. I love that he’s calm and determined and doesn’t hesitate to say what’s really on his mind.
