Can Jay-Z revive “Takeover” for a new generation, or is Charlamagne just turning every hip-hop fan’s wish into reality?
I’ve got a pretty good idea of what Jay-Z should be doing with these concerts that he has scheduled. Well, so does Charlamagne.
Jay-Z may very well be in for another surprise, as the Charlamatta God just gave his thoughts on what should happen when the Roc mogul takes the stage at Yankee Stadium.
With three hometown shows scheduled for July 10 to July 12, anticipation is at its peak. We were there when Jay-Z wowed fans with his eye-catching performance at Roots Picnic. Yes, we had a party that was mostly state property, but there were other things going on in New York. The question is, what trick does he have this time?
Charlamagne thought he knew of a possibility.
During a recent episode of “The Breakfast Club,” the radio personality floated the idea that Jay-Z could create a 2026 version of “Takeover.” Of course, the original took aim at Nas and Mobb Deep, truly sparking one of rap’s most memorable battles. However, times have changed. Nas and Jay-Z reconciled, and Prodigy is no longer with us. I hope Jay and P can reconcile.
“He’s not going to Mobb Deep or Nas. God bless the dead, rest in peace, Prodigy. Like this, he has a way to turn this around… He can either skip it or he can update the 2026 version of Takeover.” Charlamagne might be onto something.
This is an interesting idea.
People either come for it or they don’t. I think at this mature age he could release a new album and rock it. We can also decode it easily. Running back to diss records because a few people got shot is probably not a good idea. Lutz’s chin freestyle was good enough.
He took shots at the likes of Drake, Nicki Minaj and Dame Dash.
So can Charlamagne really do anything? Or are we past that?
If Jay-Z wants to update Takeover, there’s certainly no shortage of names, but do we want the guy who gave us 444? Jigga always moves silently until the perfect moment arrives. If there’s no new music, I think he’ll save it.
Yankee Stadium is more than just another concert. This is the home court. If Jay-Z has something to say, there may not be a bigger stage to say it on.
We’ll find out soon enough. tomorrow.
