Less than 48 hours after Donald Trump was elected president, Boosie BadAzz took to social media to scream for clemency. But does the Louisiana rapper really have a chance of making The Donald’s list?
On Wednesday afternoon (November 6), while the rest of the country was either disappointed or elated to celebrate the return of MAGA SZN, Busey was putting together an informal proposal for the next commander-in-chief.
@realDonaldTrump Can you excuse my federal case? The court ruled that non-violent conduct could not be charged with 922 grams. So again I am being charged and fighting the case! This is the actual case of United States v. Duarte, which was ruled unconstitutional! “
In addition to requesting a pardon, Bushey has filed another appeal with Trump.
“Oh, one more thing can you sit down with me and talk about you giving police immunity?” Busey added. “I think it incentivizes police to commit deadly crimes. No matter what, ‘please don’t do it,’ congratulations on winning, let’s get this money and give up these taxes that are costing me my life.”
Bushi Badazz asks Trump for pardon.
Donald Trump’s pardon power
The Constitution gives the president the power to grant reprieves and pardons for federal crimes. Trump has granted executive clemency to 237 people during his four-year term, pardoning people accused of crimes and commuting the sentences of those already in or behind bars. Typically, a formal request for a pardon is sent to the Office of the Pardon Attorney. However, many of Trump’s clemencies were reportedly directed at people with whom he had personal relationships or for political gain.
Two of Trump’s biggest pardons in hip-hop are Kodak Black and Lil Wayne. When Trump left office in January 2021, he commuted Yak’s sentence on federal gun charges, allowing the South Florida rapper to be released early. Trump also pardoned Turnage. Wynn pleaded guilty to federal firearms charges in December 2020 and is awaiting sentencing.
Trump also granted clemency to Michael “Harry-O” Harris, co-founder of Death Row Records.
Does Busey have a chance?
Busey was arrested by federal authorities last June and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm following a local gun case in San Diego. A judge initially refused to dismiss the charges, and Bussey prepared to take the case to trial. However, in July this year, the charges were dismissed. In another plot twist, the dismissal of the case is now being appealed.
Unlike many rappers who have criticized Trump, Boosie has remained neutral on the controversial politician in the past. Busey said in a 2019 interview with VladTV that he would not attack Trump because Trump could have the CIA take his life. The next year, after South Florida rapper Lil Pump popped up at a Trump rally, Boosie commented that Trump made the South Florida rapper look like a “house n*gg**.” Back in April, Bussey insisted that Trump’s criminal prosecution made him more attractive to black people.
Could Trump begin his presidency by pardoning Boosie as a flattery to the hip-hop community? Maybe. But something tells us that this task has been knocked pretty low on Trump’s list of priorities.
