Em didn’t speak, but Royce Da 5′ 9″ had something to say.
Let’s dig a little deeper. First of all, “Billboard” magazine announced the list of the best rappers. The top four rappers are 2Pac, Nas, Kendrick Lamar and JAY-Z. Eminem has collaborated with all of them, including posthumously with Pac. It’s clear he thinks he deserves a higher ranking. Here’s what he said on his new song “Tobey”:
“Not feeling your top five favorite rappers (Woo)
So I knew they were going to target me (why?)
But it’s a mystery to me
What could a rapper I’ve torn apart be like (What?)
Higher on the list than me (ha)”
So, who could he be talking about? This is very specific! There are only a few possibilities. At this point, I think Eminem doesn’t want to get mad at Kendrick because they’re cool. Moreover, Dot is also a monster. Tupac is no longer with us. Nas is very important right now, but I don’t feel like Eminem “teared” him apart. BTW, some people are saying that LL smoked Eminem in their new song, but I digress. That leaves JAY-Z and “Renegade.”
Most people feel that Eminem’s performance on this song is better than JAY-Z’s. Personally, I’ve never thought so, but everyone else seems to think so, and I agree. I believe most lists are based on the work and overall legacy rather than on specific songs or verses. Eminem is a constant observer of culture. It was clear that he saw what was going on and took exception to this particular list.
Although Eminem didn’t say anything directly, his good friend and fellow GOAT Royce Da 5′ 9″ did. I have to admit, it’s about time Eminem started talking to us directly and not through his friends. Although I Believe Royce’s point of view and what he said, but he said on the Internet that Eminem does not despise JAY-Z. It is not a diss, but it is a subliminal message to someone. You’ll know for a fact that he’s not one of those names that’s closer to being considered the greatest of all time.
When you talk about the greatest players of all time, we have to narrow it down to the barely active JAY-Z. Once again, people close to Eminem are in complete denial, so what do I know? I know next to nothing. However, it would be cool to hear directly from Eminem.
I also think dissing JAY-Z is a bad look from a cultural perspective. For culture’s sake, he won’t go there. Someone like Maestro Mele Mele, who also suffered a bit from the song, is an easier target.
what do you think?
