YG was reportedly detained by police in California this morning in connection with the Drakeo The Ruler murder investigation and later released.
On Thursday (July 23), TMZ reported that the California Highway Patrol and SWAT teams executed a search warrant at one of the Compton, California rapper’s properties in Burbank and briefly detained him. According to the celebrity news site, the search warrant was part of an investigation into the 2021 killing of Ruler Drakeo. Footage shared by TMZ shows the rapper standing outside a building with police.
Although there were rumors that YG was involved in the stabbing death of Drakeo at the Los Angeles Fairytale Festival, charges were never brought against him. He insists he had nothing to do with the murder, even addressing it in his new song “We Know the Truth,” from his latest album, Gentlemen’s Club.
“They say I murdered this, they say I murdered that/Well, if that’s true, you’re a damn rat,” YG raps on the song. “I’d sleep on a shelf in a cell/But too bad that’s not true.”
“I came to get paid and ended up on stage/And then I heard what you all heard, someone got hit with a blade,” YG continued. “I heard ni**a say, ‘YG paid it’ / Stop lying, ni**a, come on YG fade.”
Despite YG’s run-in with the law, YG’s scheduled Verzuz vs. The Game is reportedly still scheduled to take place tonight.
