Norwegian football star Erling Haaland is currently enjoying the World Cup, having gone viral for a rap video he made as a teenager.
Back in 2016, the then-16-year-old Norwegian talent teamed up with youth national team teammates Erik Botheim and Erik Tobias Sandberg to form a rap trio called Flow Kingz. Haaland, who performs under the name of rapper Lyng and appears in the music video for the band’s only song, “Kygo Jo,” provides fun bar content on everything from global issues to making money and even salads.
However, the song was never intended to launch a music career. Haaland later told Manchester City that the trio simply recorded the video because they were bored during a national youth team training camp. Still, as his football career took off, the clip became an internet hit, racking up millions of views on YouTube.
Now, thanks to Haaland’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the footage has been given a second life and currently has over 20 million views on YouTube.
The Manchester City star was one of the biggest storylines of the tournament as he helped Norway beat Brazil to reach the quarter-finals for the first time. Haaland scored twice in the historic last-16 tie, taking his tournament tally to seven and joining Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Golden Boot. Norway will now face England in the quarter-finals as the country bids for an unlikely World Cup title.
