Update (May 15):
Kodak Black’s attorney released the following statement to XXL regarding the rapper’s recent arrest:
“This is a case stemming from an incident over 5 months ago. Mr. Capri turned himself in yesterday over the matter and will be released on bail today, May 15, 2026. This seems to be an ongoing theme, with arresting agencies deciding to investigate simple incidents for several months and then issue an arrest warrant half a year later. Coincidentally, at the same time, another agency arrested a 6-year-old A warrant for Mr. Capri’s arrest was issued in a case months ago, another example of charges that were ultimately dismissed, downgraded or dismissed by the courts; in another case, he was accused of possessing an illegal drug; and in another case, he was accused of testing positive at the scene for drugs that turned out to have been prescribed to him.
Original story (May 14):
Kodak Black was arrested for resisting and evading police in Florida.
The South Florida rapper was booked on Thursday (May 14) in his hometown of Pompano Beach, Florida, according to Broward County Sheriff’s Office records obtained by XXL. Kodak faces two charges of resisting an officer without violence and attempting to flee or evade law enforcement. He remains in custody at the Broward County Jail.
Kodak’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, told TMZ that the rapper has turned himself in.
“This is a surrender in another ‘investigation’ that also happens to have taken five months to ‘investigate’ the alleged escape and evasion,” Cohen said. “That’s not unexpected because that’s typically the procedure that we do, to make weak, baseless arrests and then make arrests in cases that allegedly take five or six months to investigate. At this point, I think everyone agrees that Kodak was always a target.”
Yak was arrested a week ago on drug trafficking charges and is currently being held on $75,000 bail. In this case, he turned himself in to authorities in Orange County, Florida, and was released the next day. Police said the rapper was linked to a bag they found during a search of a vehicle containing ecstasy pills.
Kodak’s lawyers also called the case a farce.
“Legally, the case was not sufficient to charge possession of the item,” Cohen told XXL. “Then, instead of simple possession, they doubled down and filed it as a trafficking charge. I will fight that charge.”
XXL has reached out to Kodak Black’s attorney and the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for comment.
