Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner tried to keep their Ray J settlement private, but it was ultimately blocked by a judge, a huge victory for the singer.
Kim Kardashian and her mother just got a reality check from the court.
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected their attempt to keep the 2023 settlement with Ray J secret, TMZ reports.
The ruling means unredacted documents relating to their secret dealings will now be publicly disclosed.
The legal battle dates back to October 2025, when Kim and Kris Jenner sued Ray J for defamation, claiming he lied about them being under federal investigation and was worse than convicted mogul Diddy.
Ray J also filed a countersuit, accusing the mother and daughter of violating a 2023 nondisclosure agreement by discussing the infamous sex tape on an episode of the Hulu series.
He claims he received $6 million to remain silent about the tape.
Kim and Chris’ legal team argued that the settlement contained “highly sensitive matters” that needed to be kept confidential to protect their families.
Their lawyers filed court documents requesting that the documents remain sealed and emphasizing the private nature of the agreement. The judge didn’t believe it.
The court found that they failed to provide sufficient evidence that public disclosure would cause them actual harm.
Ray J opposed the sealing request and the judge was entirely on his side.
The ruling requires Kim and Chris to submit an unredacted version of the entire settlement agreement.
The development means significant legal damage for the Kardashian family, which has historically maintained a tight control over its public narrative and private dealings.
