For Kendrick Lamar fans who have been waiting for a feast of new music from the masterful host, a new song will be in store for you as early as August 28th. Produced in collaboration with DJ Dahi and Amber Mark, the song is titled “How To Pray” and is part of Dahi’s upcoming album Black Boy (Alternative).
The song is a laid-back song with a beautiful fingerstyle guitar theme punctuated by carefully chosen percs and an exquisite live drum line (or so it seems). Whatever the situation, one thing is for sure; this song is an effortless, ethereal expression of the love between two people and their vulnerability to each other.
Kendrick gets deeply introspective in this book as he talks about two lovers teaching each other how to pray and love in a world that changes people in confusing ways, and not always for the best. Yet, in this transition, there is always hope.
The song was previewed on Childish Gambino’s Gilga station, where Gambino has previously debuted a lot of his own music, and even a few fans took over the song. Check out a snippet of the song from the radio play below!
