For J. Cole, the step back has now become a staple. Unfortunately, the rapper had to quit the Nanjing Monkey Kings, a team in the Chinese Basketball Association where Cole was a former professional basketball player.
Cole’s basketball career in China lasted just one game (eight minutes, to be specific) — and the rapper’s in-game statistics were both praised by some and derided by others.
With a zero-point advantage, Kerr stared at him awaiting redemption in Game 2. However, it now appears that this is not going to happen – at least not in China.
The rapper had to leave the league citing “visa issues,” much to the amusement of the trolls, as Cole preferred to “delete later.”
Jokes aside, it’s clear that the artist aspires to make a name for himself in the sports world and fulfill his second childhood dream – in China or elsewhere, and we wish him all the best in his next game!
Check out Cole’s statement regarding his exit:
“Originally, I expected to play at least three games for the CBA Nanjing Monkey Kings, but the processing time for the work visa took longer than expected, so I only played one game and then returned to China.
I would like to express my gratitude to Nanjing Club and CBA for allowing me to have this incredible experience. Also, my teammates are cool and they really wanted me to get a bucket!
I played 8 minutes in one of the top leagues in the world and made some good plays but couldn’t hit a single goal. A few more games and maybe those shots will start to drop! Regardless, I am content and grateful. Damn, I feel like I’ve lost 20! My knees feel like I played for 40 minutes!
Most importantly, the biggest win was that my family and I experienced China for the first time. The people are friendly and the city is clean and beautiful. This is a very quiet place.
The high-speed rail is crazy. Super convenient. It takes about an hour for me to get from Nanjing to Shanghai by train. In terms of distance, this is equivalent to traveling from Washington to New York in one hour.
I also didn’t realize that so many people in China were shocked by my music! Thanks to everyone who came and brought their albums to be signed. I was blown away. I feel the energy in the game and you all want me to make those shots too! Appreciate it!
I told the team that if I could stay in shape I would play longer matches after the tour next year. Me and? We’ll see. dreamer. “
