Hearth Chef is an exceptional artist who, by his own account, was a record label he didn’t want to be a part of. The Babygrande Records signee recently opened up about his feelings on Quincy Harris’ Frequency podcast, detailing his misgivings about joining the label.
According to him, he was not in trouble per se; This was related to his dislike of interactions with management and other actors. Previously, Furnace God made a public appeal to Jay-Z, needing help to get out of a deal that he did not want to be a part of. In his IG Story, he once posted “Yo Hov, get me out of this mess,” as Jay-Z has a strong reputation for helping struggling artists.
After endless speculation, we finally have some clarity on Chef/Babygrande’s situation. He tried to get himself out of the deal by returning the $500,000 they gave him, but they refused and told him they needed $2.5 million. This is crazy. https://t.co/KAYtxK3nu1 pic.twitter.com/Hyz6Vzl45x

While the details are unclear, it appears Jay-Z did eventually call him. Obviously, nothing came of this. Although Chef Hearth did mention that he fired his previous management for even bringing him the deal.
During the interview, Chef Hearth also talked about how he did try to exit his brand amicably, even putting the $500,000 he received back on the table. According to him, that was no longer an option as they instead asked him to pay $2.5 million. Sounds like an artist is in a dilemma – what do you do?
