A San Antonio man claims to have driven past what looked like a “seafood restaurant” or aquarium on Interstate 10, but later realized it wasn’t a “seafood restaurant” or aquarium. Now, he’s warning viewers not to bring their wives, baby mamas or children into the scene.
TikTok user Devin Garcia Ramirez (@officialdjaftermath210) issued a warning to anyone mistaking a specific location (111 NW Loop 410) for a child-friendly location. It’s not. He posted a public service announcement to “family-oriented” individuals telling them to avoid the destinations in his post, which was viewed more than 214,000 times.
He avoids mentioning the company’s name in the video, but most viewers can identify it after a quick Google search. Ramirez was talking about Sugar’s – a gentlemen’s club that looks pristine on the outside but is anything but that on the inside.
History of the San Antonio Sugar Company of Texas
It turns out Sugar was once a restaurant. But after a few different iterations as a steakhouse, bar and sushi restaurant, it eventually became a club. The club has gone through multiple names and iterations over the years. Although it is best known by its former name, Sugar’s, it has been given a new identity in recent history.
As one commenter on the Reddit post explained, “Sugars used to be a steakhouse ‘Stuart Anderson Cattle Company,’ which later closed and became Sharkey[‘s,] Bars/clubs…they have one at the port [Arkansas]. Then it was the Lodge Gentlemen’s Club, then Sugars Lodge, and now it’s just Sugars. “
It’s considered one of the most secluded clubs in the country, considering it doesn’t have an overt “club” appearance. Fake sharks are a staple of the castoff, often leading newcomers to San Antonio to think the area might be a seafood destination. “If you weren’t local, you wouldn’t know,” added another. But most locals know this is actually a gentlemen’s club.
The reviewer from San Antonio didn’t really need an introduction to Sugar’s services, as many locals already knew it was a club.
“Everyone in San Antonio knows what that place is,” one viewer said.
Another viewer joked: “Poor ladies, they can’t afford clothes.”
Did Ramirez really “drive by” the candy store?
In his film, Ramirez initially pretends not to know what a “shark spot” is. But he later revealed that he wouldn’t necessarily have “drove by” Interstate 10 to spot it. He advertised the gentlemen’s club, saying: “If you’re single, be sure to come tomorrow. … If you let them know DJ Aftermath is sending you, you can get 15 percent off.”
It’s unclear if the DJ is signed to or works for Sugar’s, but he does appear to be informed of the deals he’s offering to guests who come to visit.
sugar problem
Many different people have mentioned that the club – despite its superficial appearance – is dangerous.
Sugar’s has a 2.8 rating on Yelp, with recent reviews complaining about safety and smell. A 2024 review said, “This is the worst, worst-run club in the city. Super sketchy and stinks inside. No one really tips and there’s always a bunch of (guys) just looking at the regular paying customers.”
Regardless, a San Antonio DJ has some advice – be careful and don’t take your kids to 111 NW Loop 410 for sushi.
