Drake’s $1 million bet on Conor McGregor ended in disaster as the UFC star suffered a serious knee injury just seconds into the fight.
The “Drake Curse” has claimed another victim… at least according to the internet.
Drake put $1 million into Conor McGregor to defeat Max Holloway at UFC 329, but the bet fell apart almost immediately. McGregor’s long-awaited return to the Octagon lasted less than a minute, with his knee appearing to buckle on his first kick. The former UFC champion fell to the ground multiple times before the referee intervened, and Holloway eventually won by TKO in the first round. Wow!
The result immediately reignited one of sports’ favorite running jokes: the infamous “Drake Curse.” Drake has a mythical reputation for his high-profile bets and public endorsements of gambling platforms whenever things go wrong. What a great night. This was the main fight on the UFC card, and the result was incredible.
This latest failure is part of Drake’s growing list of memorable gambling mishaps. Over the years, he has lost massive bets on fighters such as Israel Adesanya, Sean Strickland, Tyson Fury and Charles Oliveira. He also reportedly lost $200,000 earlier this year by backing Jake Paul to defeat Anthony Joshua. What is that about?
Of course, the curse is not invincible. Drake also profited from some huge bets. He wasn’t always unlucky. Looking at his betting history, “The Curse” isn’t that bad. But it’s fun.
However, you have to admit this one is different. Losing a million dollar bet is painful enough. Watch your boxer suffer a devastating knee injury within seconds of the opening bell? Gadam!
“Drake’s Curse” just got stronger.
