Sean “Didi” comb is pushing for clean slate or court after being convicted of two federal charges related to paid sex in transporting women, according to a new motion filed by its legal team in the New York legal team.
Attorneys for the embattled hip-hop tycoon asked the court to abandon the guilty sentence or conduct a new trial, saying the evidence provided during the eight-week trial failed to support the allegations.
The case stems from violations of the Mann Act, a century-old law that prohibits individuals from prostitution.
Although Diddy was cleared of tougher charges (including extortion and sexual trafficking, which could put him in life sentence), the jury found him guilty of two smaller counts, involving what the prosecutor said was described as organizing what the so-called “freak discount” and with his partner and his long-term partner.
His defense team insists that the government’s cases are based on weak evidence and sensationalism.
They claimed that prosecutors “depicted him as a monster” and the jury decided to prove the case lacks substance with the worst charges.
“Sean Combs is based on evidence that he paid for his videos to entertainers who escorted adult males and performed voluntary sexual activities with his ex-girlfriend and watched with his girlfriend later. It’s not prostitution, and if so, his beliefs are unconstitutional,” the document said.
They also argued that Diddy neither arranged escort travel nor prostitution, noting that he did not have sex with the women involved.
The legal team said the Mann Act was abused, alleging unfairly targeting his private lifestyle.
If the court refuses to overturn the verdict, Didi’s lawyers demand a new trial, citing insufficient evidence to support the jury’s decision on both charges.
Diddy seeks bonds for $50 million parcel
In another filing earlier this week, his attorney updated his efforts to release the bonds before sentenced for $50 million.
They proposed a strict bail package that would leave Diddy at his Miami residence, demand his passport to surrender and limit his travel to southern Florida and southern New York.
They believe that the “special circumstances” (including threats to his safety at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, including threats to his safety – justified his release and pointed out that others have been approved for similar charges while awaiting sentence.
So far, the court has denied his bond demand, citing domestic violence incidents and fears he could pose a threat to others.
