OutKast, Goodie Mob, and Killer Mike hosted a massive Dungeon Family reunion in honor of the late Rico Wade.
Last weekend, the likes of André 3000, Big Boi, Killer Mike, Sleepy Brown and Goodie Mob’s Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo gathered in Atlanta for a picnic to celebrate the pioneering producer’s legacy.
Wade’s mother also joined the ATL rap legend as they posed for photos outside the producer’s former home. .
“There was a picnic in the dungeon today. Everyone went home: OutKast, Dre and Big, Goodie, [Mr.] DJ,” Jeep explained in a video posted on Instagram.
The reunion comes just over a month after Wade unexpectedly died of heart failure at age 52.
Following his death, many of the Grammy winner’s close friends and collaborators paid tribute to him.
Big Boi wrote on Instagram: “This is a different type of hurt…. Crafty Ricky Wade… I know you are still with us… playing a bigger role now… Archangel Energy …highest vibration…praise be to you.
The OutKast legend also posted a video of himself talking about Wade’s contributions to hip-hop.
In the video, he says, “Rico Wade is one third of Organized Noize and he’s like the face of this producer collective. He was connected to LaFace Records through Pebbles because he had worked with TLC’s Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins went to school together. She connected him with Pebbles, who introduced Rico to LA Reid through them.
“He was like a gateway to L.A. and the producer who produced ‘Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.’ They signed OutKast. Organized Noize handled our signing with LaFace Records. So without Rico Wade, Sleepy Brown, and Ray Mu Lei, there won’t be [be no OutKast]”.
CeeLo Green also spent about $1 million to buy Wade’s former home, preserving it as part of hip-hop history and turning it into a museum.
“It’s too important and too valuable to just let it go. The asking price is around $1 million and I’m willing to pay more!” CeeLo explained in a social media post. “I’m proud to say that I and my real estate partners …my sister did this for the family!
