J. Cole understands the importance of hip-hop and the conversation surrounding it, and has taken a laudable step in curating discussion and perspective with the launch of his latest magazine, The Fall Off.
The 144-page magazine is available in person in Charlotte, North Carolina, or online. The launch of the magazine also marks the beginning of promotion and publicity efforts for J. Cole’s upcoming world tour following the release of his latest album.
According to a press release describing the nature of the magazine, The Fall Off will bring together more than 60 writers, photographers, illustrators, designers and artists to foster conversation and reflection on hip-hop’s glorious past, documenting its present, and thinking about the culture’s future. Included are articles/additional conversation pieces by Lauryn Hill, JID, Glorilla, Larry June, and more.
The magazine also hints at reviews of culturally important, fan-favorite and critically acclaimed albums (perhaps albums by Killer Mike, Yachty, RZA and BIA), although this part is merely speculation inferred from the magazine cover.
Let’s take a look at the recently released covers!
Essentially, as the official promotional notes state, the project is an ode to “the spirit of rap magazines that have shaped generations.”
