Meek Mill pulled up to Imhotep High School to tell students real-life stories of survival, purpose and building something beyond the streets.
Meek Mill stopped by Imhotep High School in West Philadelphia to give students a masterclass in survival, purpose, and building something real before summer rolls around.
The rapper doesn’t come in with corporate clichés or empty motivations. He brings his story, his scars, and the wisdom that can only come from living through the struggles these kids are facing now.
Mick grew up in North Philadelphia without a father, which impacted Mick’s life and career.
“My dad was killed when I was four or five years old,” he told the students, according to NBC10. “I never had anyone teach me how to exercise as a man, or at all.”
This loss becomes fuel. Instead of accepting the streets as his only option, he built an empire.
He is president of Dream Chaser Records, his independent record label where he controls his own destiny and keeps the profits.
He is the co-owner of activewear retailer Lids, proving that hip-hop success can translate into real wealth and ownership. He co-founded the Reform Alliance with Jay-Z and Sixers owner Michael Rubin to fight criminal justice reform, turning his legal battle into a movement that changed lives across the country.
But in Imhotep, Mick wasn’t there to brag about his victory. He was there to warn these kids about the trap he almost fell into.
“As a kid, try not to spend too much time on social media because 80 percent of it is fake,” he said, knowing how algorithms can poison young minds.
The real message hit them hardest when he told them to find their trade, their passion, their way out.
“Try to find a deal. Find something that you can do in the summer that you enjoy that doesn’t bring sadness, doesn’t bring violence, doesn’t bring jail time,” Mick said.
The visit comes amid National Gun Violence Awareness Month in June and the upcoming summer vacation, a time when violence typically spikes in Philadelphia communities. Mick’s message about finding purpose and staying focused is exactly what these students need to hear right now.
