Ray J has repeatedly made public comments about the sex tape settlement, in which Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner demanded that he pay $7 million for violating a 2023 nondisclosure agreement.
Kim Kardashian and her mother Kris Jenner accused Ray J of multiple violations of a confidential settlement agreement they fought back in 2023, demanding he hand over $7 million.
According to legal letters obtained by TMZ, the mother-daughter duo took seriously the deal’s strict confidentiality clause, which prohibits both parties from discussing the infamous sex tape or making false statements about each other.
The original 2023 agreement called for Kim and Kris to pay Ray J a total of $6 million in installments.
They gave him $3 million upfront within 30 days of signing, then another $1 million before April 2024, followed by a third $1 million before April 2025, with the final $1 million due in 2026.
But things fell apart when Ray J began speaking out about the deal, setting off a chain reaction of legal threats and countersuits that are still playing out in court.
By May 2025, Kim and Kris’ legal team sent Ray J a letter demanding that he return the entire $5 million he had received and pay them each an additional $1 million for breach of confidentiality.
“My client takes this matter very seriously, and unless your client complies with the above, the Kardashian family will pursue legal action to defend their rights,” the letter read.
Ray J didn’t comply, so they allegedly wrote another letter in October 2025 with tougher demands after he discussed the settlement on air.
Kim and Kris claim that because Ray J has violated the agreement again, they are no longer obligated to pay him the final $1 million due in 2026.
They demanded that he immediately return the $5 million he had pocketed.
The situation escalated when Ray J sued them for defamation over remarks that suggested they were under federal investigation for racketeering.
Kim and Kris fought back with a defamation lawsuit, but Ray J countersued, claiming they violated the 2023 agreement by discussing the sex tape on the Hulu reality show.
A California judge recently ruled against Kim and Chris’ attempts to keep details of the settlement secret, meaning the public can now access documents that were supposed to remain confidential.
Judge Steven Ellis found the public’s right of access outweighed their privacy concerns.
The whole situation turned into a legal nightmare, with each side accusing the other of breaking the rules.
Ray J’s legal team has yet to respond to the $7 million demand, but given that he has countersued and denied violating the agreement, the case is far from over.
