Kim Scott found herself handcuffed this week when Michigan State Police arrested her on drunken driving charges following a hit-and-run accident.
The 51-year-old ex-wife of rap star Eminem told police she drank two margaritas at a Chili restaurant before the incident that landed her in legal trouble, TMZ reports.
On Monday evening, Chesterfield Township police received reports that a white Range Rover had crashed into a parked vehicle and fled the scene. A neighbor witnessed the accident and called authorities after seeing the SUV parked at a nearby residence.
Police arrived at the home and Scott opened the door and immediately admitted ownership of the Range Rover. She admitted to using the vehicle recently and told police she knew why they were there.
“I know what’s going on,” according to the police report. She admitted hitting the parked truck but claimed another vehicle caused her to collide with the car.
When asked about her drinking, Scott revealed that she had had two margaritas at the popular restaurant chain earlier that night.
Officers noted her glossy eyes, slurred speech and drowsy behavior during the interaction.
Police found a strong odor of alcohol on Scott’s breath and body, prompting them to conduct a breathalyzer test. Results showed her blood alcohol content was 0.079, just below Michigan’s legal limit of 0.08.
The situation became even more worrying when police searched Scott’s Range Rover and found more evidence of drinking.
Police found an empty Crown Apple mini bottle in the driver’s door compartment.
According to the police report, a can of root beer found in the car appeared to contain an alcoholic substance similar to Royal Whiskey. These findings supported the officer’s observation of Scott’s impairment.
During the booking process, Scott showed signs of severe intoxication, which concerned law enforcement officials. Police observed her dozing while waiting for instructions and appeared limp, raising concerns about the extent of her impairment.
When pressed about the damage the Range Rover had done to her garage, Scott appeared confused and claimed the dent was already there. Her response suggested she may not have fully understood the extent of the night’s events.
Scott faces two misdemeanor charges, including driving under the influence and hit and run. The charges represent another legal challenge for the mother, who has faced similar issues in the past.
Scott has yet to make her first court appearance to address the charges filed against her this week.
