Kimora Lee Simmons violated today’s child labour laws during early European modeling days, working thousands of people under the conditions of violating today’s child labour laws.
Fashionable tycoons and mothers of five have opened up the huge cost of staying in touch with their families, after moving overseas to model when they were only 13 years old.
“I’m running the phone bill,” Simmons said. “My phone bill – it’s crazy – my phone bill is about $5,000 a month because that’s a real long-distance bill.”
Long before FaceTime or Wi-Fi, Simmons relied on collecting phones and credit cards to his mother in Missouri.
“You don’t have a phone plan and Wi-Fi,” she said. “We don’t.

Simmons left his hometown before leaving high school, struggling with intense country activities while living and working in Europe. At the time, she modeled luxury fashion houses like Chanel under the guidance of Karl Lagerfeld.
Simmons reflects on her early start in the industry, noting that her teenage job would not fly to current labor standards.
“As I got older, I realized I was the youngest,” she said. “Carl would even tell me ‘What we did before is illegal now’ – labor law and children.
Simmons’ transnational appearance at the beginning of her career was groundbreaking in a noble way, helping her stand out on the Paris runway. Simmons ended the 1989 Chanel Haute Couture Show as The Bride and continued his walk to prestigious fashion houses such as Fendi, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent and Emanuel Ungaro.
She also appeared on the covers of major magazines such as Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar. Her model success laid the foundation for her later business in fashion design and business, including Baby Phat.
