Common and Pete Rock recently dropped their album Auditorium Vol. 1are back with a beautiful visual for their song “Fortunate” from their album.
This story-driven video has a touch of nostalgia and captures stories from Chicago with gratitude. The song itself is built around gratitude for good luck and fits perfectly with the album’s timeless theme.
Common rap songs tell the story of his life, laced with some of the metaphors used by seasoned emcees. As Common takes you on a walk down his memory lane, you’ll hear the experience speak for itself as he acknowledges the people he’s been blessed to have in his life. On the production side, Pete Rock’s purposeful use of arpeggio-based melodies and crisp drum beats adds significantly to the dreamy quality of the record. All in all, this is an experience we have to recommend.
I’m so lucky with my fans, haha. You guys are awesome, thank you so much for supporting my project with Common. We haven’t felt this good in hip-hop yet, haha. 🙏🏾😎

The film takes you to Chicago’s South Side, where you’ll see people embracing their loved ones, praying, grieving, celebrating and rejoicing together. The video and the song are, ultimately, an ode to life itself—for Common himself and for Pete Rock, to a beating heart and a pounding drum.
