One of XXXTentacion’s killers said in his appeal of his murder conviction that he could not provide evidence implicating Drake.
Deidrick Williams cited Drake’s evidence in appeal brief
On November 29, Mauricio Padilla, the trial attorney for convicted XXXTentacion killer Dedrick Williams, appeared on the Law & Crime Network to discuss Williams’ recently filed appeal brief. In the interview (shown below), Padilla elaborated on Williams’ complaint regarding Drake’s possible involvement in evidence that was not allowed during the trial.
“In December 2020, I submitted a witness list,” Padilla said near the five-minute time stamp in the video below. “The state’s response to that was to file a motion saying, ‘We want the court to strike all of his witnesses.’ That’s not legal and it’s not something you can do, you have to itemize the strikes you want to take.
“Before [XXXTentacion] After his murder, he posted on Instagram, “If someone killed me I would be snitching right now.” It was [Drake]Padilla continued. “I was explaining, but with some loose ends… I laid out all my defense witness lists in great detail, and they included many rappers. Padilla said Williams’ appellate attorneys did not specifically argue that Drake pulled the trigger, but that the trial was unfair because of insufficient evidence.
Padilla added: “The defendant has every right to defend himself and to show reasonable doubt everywhere and fully investigate and present to the jury a substitute shooter defense or a defense for someone else who committed this crime.” “I “Are you going to sit here and tell you that Drake had a gun…but what X’s own mother said is that she knew about the dispute with Drake.”

Lawyers unsuccessfully argue Drake may have been involved
Drake was initially ordered to testify in XXXTentacion’s murder trial last February after Padilla cited XXX’s social media posts about Drake abandoning him. However, Drake’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, successfully dismissed the motion and Drizzy did not have to be involved.
Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright and Trayvon Newsome were found guilty of first-degree murder and robbery in connection with a robbery in July 2018 and the killing of XXX last March. The three were sentenced to life imprisonment last April.
