A Tennessee man shocked the internet after reading the instructions for a parchment box and discovering that he had been removing parchment from the box the wrong way his entire life.
On November 22, TikTok user Keni Henderson (@keni_noelle) posted a viral video showing users the proper way to remove parchment paper from the roll, following the instructions on the box. The video has been viewed more than 5 million times.
“I’ve spent my whole life digging it in with my little fingers, pulling it out, squeezing the ever-loving junk from the sides, trying to get it to rip, just to get it to pull out like this,” the man in the video said. “The box does have some instructions on the box for opening it.
Is this the correct way to remove parchment paper?
The man explained how he usually removes parchment. “So usually you squeeze it, hold it tight, and pray it slides out,” he said. “No, you shouldn’t do that.”
He then revealed that the method listed on the box instructions was much simpler. “There’s a sharp part,” he says, showing the box to the camera. “You stick the lid into the box like this and then you pull it.”
“I’m 34 years old and I understand this now,” the man said in frustration.
Audience reaction to parchment presentation
The TikTok user wasn’t the only one surprised by the simple instructions, as the comments were equally shocking.
“Professional baker here for 15 years,” one user said. “I was a few years old when I learned this. I had just walked into the kitchen to give it a try, and now I’m sitting at the dinner table questioning my career choice.”
“This is literally life-changing information,” added another.
“At this point I’m just assuming there’s something wrong with my breathing too,” joked a third comment.
The video is part of a larger trend of viral videos on TikTok in which users highlight seemingly simple instructions for everyday products that many consumers are completely unaware of.
