The prime suspect on trial for the murder of Tupac Shakur formally denied being in Las Vegas on the night of the 1996 shooting during a court filing on August 10, 2026. Duane “Keefe D” Davis submitted a declaration in Clark County District Court stating he was in Compton, California, on September 7, 1996. The filing directly contradicts his own memoir and VladTV interviews.
Prosecutors plan to use Keefe D’s book Compton Street Legend and multiple interviews where he admitted to being in the shooter’s car as central evidence. His defense argues those statements were for entertainment and are inadmissible hearsay. Judge Carli Kierny denied suppression last week, allowing the statements to be played to jurors.
Jury selection commenced today with 80 jurors screened and 200 more on standby. The six-week trial is the first ever prosecution for Tupac’s murder, 30 years later. If convicted, Keefe D faces life without parole.
