A Florida woman met a man on Hinge who had a novel-length voice memo on his profile that made her question the very concept of dating itself.
TikTok founder Carol Moon (@carolmoonsworld) posted a video about the news, including the full voice memo.
“For the second case in my Hinge series,” she says at the beginning of the video, “this is honestly one of the meanest things I’ve ever heard from a man before.”
To combat the offensive message, Moon said she would play it over clips of animals she had previously fostered.
Is a Floridian’s voice memo the most inappropriate thing ever?
Below is the full transcript of the voice memo:
“I wouldn’t have asked for sex in the first place if it was going to be an issue. I’m not going to ruin it by letting this happen. But if I reach out to you, you’re going to stop me, push me back, and start giving me excuses, saying it’s too early, you’re too young, even though you’re 29, and we need to spend our time getting to know each other better first. Everyone is invested in this routine, and what they want to be invested in, if they’re likely to continue to change.
You know, this can happen. This kind of thing really happens once in a blue moon. But think about how many people DM you and ask you out, and how many of them end up being your boyfriend. Not even one ten thousandth. So men are on the receiving end of this. What you just sent me is actually what every girl says to me. Just take me to dinner. In fact, you said, “Take me out to eat in public with no expectations.”
This is what you will find impossible. The kind of man you want won’t do these things for you. It’s like going out and asking strangers for a few hundred dollars. They won’t do it. You can keep trying, but you’ll find it hard to find. When you do, you’ll discover that these people are hopeless losers, not the kind of people you want to be with. At some point you may be tempted to say, “Maybe I should stop begging.” ‘”
If you thought it was all over, I’m kidding you. Here’s the rest:
“Maybe I shouldn’t expect a guy to spend hundreds of dollars and a lot of time buying hope.” If you really want to get to know a guy, I know none of these girls are going to do that. I know the reason they don’t is because I give them a choice. I said, ‘Well, if you want to get to know me before you try to be my girlfriend, that’s crazy, but OK, we can give it a try. Why don’t you come to Hotel No. 1? … This is private, but I’ll let you into the venue. We have five swimming pools, five restaurants. This place is epic. And I won’t spend any money on you. I’m not going to buy you a $50 salad.
But we can hang out and you can get to know me and see what it’s like to be around me. When I asked them to get to know me in a great setting in public, guess what they said? No. So I know they’re lying. “
Yes, it does continue…
“They had no interest in getting to know me at all. They just wanted to find a victim to take them out, make them feel important, give them love and attention, pay for everything. Dinner in Miami is very expensive.
Then they can go back to attracting the attention or sleeping with someone they really like, and they would never do such a thing for them. Everyone already knows all this. That’s why you get into so much trouble. If you’re honest, I think you’ll find that all your problems will go away.
If you’re looking for a needle in a haystack, let me know. I usually don’t message women in Miami because I don’t think I’ll find what I’m looking for. I think there are too many predators here. I don’t think they would be my girlfriend…if I didn’t spend money on them. “
Douyin, are you still there?
In the comments section of the film, audience reactions ranged from disgust to amusement.
“If you turned the volume down, this would be the sweetest video ever,” said one animal-loving viewer.
“Actually, this is in Miami, so close to me,” joked a second viewer.
“I’m 57,” said a third. “I quit dating 15 years ago. I’ve never been happier, so peaceful.”
“I just deleted Hinge,” another said. “I’m tired.”
Do women really have to give up dating?
According to Buzzfeed, more and more women are leaving the dating world due to toxic masculinity and the “emotional intelligence gap.” Not only that, but apparently, men are more emotionally attracted to their female partners because they have difficulty communicating successfully with their friends.
On Medium, Melissa Alvarez attributes this phenomenon to frustration with the state of “situations,” which involve emotional intimacy but without the commitment of a formal relationship title.
Two years ago, in a Reddit post on r/AskWomenOver30, a woman revealed why she chose not to date. “Overall, I feel content and, honestly, I have less and less hope for people growing up as they get older. I’m less willing to take risks and walk away when I see red flags or incompatibilities.”
