Russ recently revealed how the sample of his 2015 hit “Losin Control” didn’t clean the sample, which cost him $850,000.
Russ explains $850,000 error
On Monday (June 2), he is a podcast, the writer is… a podcast, where he talks about business, burnout, self-confidence, etc. While sitting down, Russ explains how he paid nearly $1 million to resolve a sample dispute over eight platinum tracks, “Lotus Protein Control.”
“I’m the same as that song,” Russ said on the podcast below. “Because I forgot to clear the sample until four times after platinum. I might clear it when it was made in 2015. But I didn’t know anyone in 2015. I was just a kid in the basement. But then I might clean it up for $5,000.”
He continued: “This song was released, played on the album, and I forgot to think, ‘I don’t even remember if I sampled it.’” he continued. “And I thought, oh, I did…so the sample holder came…so I had to cut a check of about $850,000. It’s an expensive f**k.”
Russ said the losses weren’t that serious because he used his progress to repay the legal issues.
“So, I didn’t even feel like I lost money,” he said.
