Rod Weaver found himself behind bars in Atlanta just hours after celebrating his first Grammy nomination, a stark contrast between career success and legal troubles.
The 27-year-old Florida artist was taken into custody after a traffic violation on Howell Mill Road Friday night. Law enforcement officials reported that they initially stopped the rapper after witnessing him speeding through a stop sign.
During the roadside encounter, officers discovered what they believed to be marijuana and other controlled substances inside the vehicle. Authorities also found a gun on Green, leading to multiple felony charges.
Fulton County jail records show Rod Weaver faces three serious charges: possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, possession of a Schedule II and Schedule V controlled substance and reckless driving violations.
The timing proved particularly ironic, as Rod Poff had received his first Grammy recognition earlier the same day. His song “Sinners,” which appeared in the film of the same name, earned him a nomination for Best Song for Visual Media.
Rod Wave’s legal team responded to the arrest, issuing a statement through attorneys Drew Findling, Zach Findling and Marissa Goldberg.
The attorneys claimed their clients were “unfairly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta,” and accused the Atlanta Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit of using a “quota-driven approach” to arrests.
“We look forward to vigorously challenging this baseless arrest and clear violation of Mr. Green’s rights in court,” the attorneys wrote.
Rod Wave was released on bail on Saturday and was detained for about 24 hours. This latest incident marks another chapter in Rod Wave’s ongoing legal battle in the Atlanta metropolitan area.
Earlier this year, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant containing twelve separate charges, including aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and evidence tampering charges.
Less than thirty days after these accusations, the same agency filed additional assault charges against the rapper.
Authorities have not released further details about the specific substance allegedly found during the traffic stop or the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the gun.
