Offset claimed that “Haunted By Fame” was a carefully planned release to end his record deal after the mixtape failed to chart.

Offset claims he used the Halloween release of “Haunted By Fame” not to hit the charts but to escape a restrictive record contract.

The 14-song album was released on October 31 via UMG Recordings with little to no promotion, confusing some in the hip-hop community.

Now it’s clear that the surprise wasn’t about the weird vibe, but about business. The former Migos rapper allegedly masterminded the project as a contract loophole rather than a commercial drama.

Offset himself confirmed the move on Instagram, saying the project was a “mixtape to make my deal.”

Offset responded after his mixtape Haunted By Fame sold 3,100 copies in its first week but failed to chart on the Billboard 200:

Sales reflect intent. The project failed to chart on the Billboard 200 and sold less than 8,000 units in its first week. Even with features from NBA YoungBoy, Lil Dump and NoCap, the tape received little attention.

The music itself is no less impressive. In the song “No Sweat,” Offset appears to take aim at estranged wife Cardi B and her relationship with NFL player Stefon Diggs.

The lyrics have sparked speculation about Cardi B’s personal life, but Offset has already hinted at regrets about the way he handled their relationship. During an appearance on the “Baby, It’s Keke Palmer” podcast, the Atlanta artist admitted, “I’m definitely not perfect. I make a lot of mistakes. I do a lot wrong, and it’s always on the front screen, so it’s hard to shake it off.”

When asked what he would have done differently, he said without hesitation: “I should have respected her more. As a man, I made the wrong decision to quit and I have to live with the consequences.”

Offset’s divorce from Cardi B has been a topic of public concern, especially after reports surfaced that Offset turned down a $10 million settlement offer and walked away from the marriage.
