NLE Choppa’s latest interview reminds his fans and social media that he and famous figures like Bobbi Althoff are just regular people at the end of the day.
In a recent series on the Bobbi Althoff podcast, NLE Choppa opened up about his own struggles with mental health while touching on deeply personal topics that resonated with both of them. Although their upbringings were very different, the conversation took a serious turn as Bobbie began to share her own experiences with suicidal thoughts as a teenager, striking a chord with both men.
“I was just in high school,” she said. “I just started high school. Yeah, I’m going to school. Oh. I tried to kill myself when I was 14.
Althoff admitted that she felt a little anxious about sharing her painful experience, but with the “S### Me Out 2” rapper comforting her and setting the stage for a raw and honest discussion, delivered with compassion and Respond with understanding and everything changes.
“It’s a safe space for me,” NLE Choppa said. “I won’t judge you. I’ve attempted suicide before.
As the conversation continued, NLE Choppa took some time to reflect on the importance of their survival.
“I’m glad you didn’t,” he told her. “Because look at you now. You wouldn’t recognize me now. But look at you now. Imagine what you at 14 would say to you now.
The discussion then turned to broader issues of appreciation and perspective. NLE Choppa passionately addresses the common struggles faced by many people, regardless of their background.
“In our community, we always focus on what we’re not getting and what other people are getting and say, damn, I hope to make that happen one day,” he said. “But we watch them … as they go through the same thing.”
He then took some time to defend Bobbie Althoff against the racially divisive criticism she has received on social media. In doing so, NLE Choppa’s defense of Althoff was sincere and sincere, reminding fans that we are all on the same level playing field in this game of life.
“A lot of black people love you, Bobby,” he said. “About ninety percent. I get it. They’re happy to see you, but there’s always that 10 percent who have something to say because different races are doing what different races are supposed to do. Did you just listen? Said how she was a person before anything, before color, before sex, before any f###### thing. She was a person when she was 14 years old.
The interview ended on a poignant note, with Althoff thanking NLE Choppa for their support. “It made me emotional. I didn’t expect this,” she said.
NLE Choppa’s thoughtful comments about Bobby come after the media personality bore the brunt of criticism from cultural critics and media professionals following his viral interview with Drake. Last October, Plies weighed in on the months-long discussion surrounding Bobbi Althoff, claiming she “needs to exploit culture to appear lost” because “that’s her cash outlay!”
Sports reporter Jemele Hill is among those who have taken issue with Althoff’s interviews with famous rap figures such as Offset. In September 2023, the former ESPN contributor expressed her concerns on the X platform, suggesting that she believed content creators like Bobbi were the reason “real hip-hop news” was being removed.
