Misty Carr faces her biggest legal battle yet, with the New Orleans rapper’s upcoming rape trial still shrouded in secrecy due to a gag order, with limited public information available.
The rap star appeared in Ascension Parish Court on January 21. His defense team requested a gag order that now covers both the prosecution and defense attorneys. The judge granted the request.
The gag order prevents attorneys, witnesses and court officials from discussing details of the case with the media or the public. This legal tool prevents sensitive information from influencing potential jurors before trial.
The 51-year-old rapper has been held without bail at the Ascension Parish Prison since his arrest in July 2022 on first-degree rape charges.
Mistikal’s current charges include domestic abuse by strangulation, simple robbery, false imprisonment and multiple drug possession charges. The incident occurred on July 30, 2022, at his home in Prairieville.
The victim claimed she was attacked during a dispute over money. She claimed that Mistikar, who was mentally disturbed at the time, punched, kicked, choked, and pulled out her hair before forcing her to pray with him to “remove evil spirits” before eventually raping her.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. His attorney, Tiffany Myles Crosby, took over the case and asked for a delay in reviewing the evidence.
This marks Taylor’s third major legal action involving sexual assault allegations. He served six years in prison from 2004 to 2010 after pleading guilty to sexual assault.
The earlier case involved a hairstylist who accused Taylor and two bodyguards of forcing her to perform oral sex. She claims they threatened to report her for allegedly stealing $80,000 worth of checks.
Taylor became a registered sex offender after his release in 2010. He briefly returned to prison in 2012 for violating probation on domestic abuse charges.
Another rape case emerged in 2018, when Taylor faced first-degree rape and kidnapping charges. He spent 18 months in prison before prosecutors dropped the charges in December 2020 due to insufficient evidence.
The Shake Ya Ass rapper built his career in the ’90s through No Limit Records. He received three Grammy nominations during his prime.
Judge Steven Tureau will oversee Taylor’s trial, which is scheduled for March 30, 2026. Taylor is scheduled for a motion hearing on March 17, 2026.
Under Louisiana’s mandatory sentencing laws, Taylor faces life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted of first-degree rape.
