Mass Appeal is pushing the best in culture, as shown by the way the new Mobb Deep project is being launched. Not to mention the other projects that came before this as part of the Legend Has It… series (such as projects from Ghostface, Slick Rick, etc.). In every sense of the word, “Down For You” set the tone for the reception of the legendary duo’s ninth album, Infinite.
The beat is a syncopated, draggy, dusty boom bap beat with a hint of R&B. Jorja Smith’s vocals combine with reverb and panning in the best possible way, adding richness to this sensual, punchy and gritty track. Nas’s rapping shines as well, being both reminiscent of old-school hip-hop and imbued with the energy of new-school soul.
The entire project is a celebration of Havoc and Prodigy’s influence and legacy, and “Down For You” boasting a Nas feature is a welcome tribute. Check out the song below to see if it lives up to its name!
