Mary J. Blige has formally filed a $5 million lawsuit filed by longtime friend and designer Misa Hylton, who accused the Grammy Awards singer of interfering in her business relationship with rapper Vader.
Mary J. Blige confirmed that she received her receipt and was filed on May 30 (May 30), marking the official beginning of a possible long legal battle.
Although both parties agree on how to do it in court, Blige and her legal team have not waived any defense. The court gave her a response until July 28, 2025.
Allhiphop broke the news: The legal standoff stemmed from claims that Blige’s beautiful life productions through her company forced Vado to cut ties with Hylton’s agent Misa Management, whose contract gave them 20% of the rapper’s revenue.
According to the lawsuit, Mary J. Blige allegedly blocked Vado’s album release, restricted his tour opportunities and held a private meeting with him to convince him to exit the deal.
Helton also claimed that Blager’s security supervisor reportedly tried to take over Wador’s management duties and warned the rapper that he would miss career opportunities if he was with Misa
The lawsuit was filed earlier this year, accusing Blige of “intentional interference with the contractual relationship”, emotional distress and breach of commercial agreements.
Hylton’s legal team noted that she tried to resolve the matter privately, but had not received a response from Blige for months.
“These women are closer than the biological sisters. Misa does everything she can to keep private – calls, words, and even letters to Mary’s legal team. But after months of silence and missed obligations, we have no choice but to file a lawsuit. This lawsuit is not Plan A, that is Plan Z,” Hylton’s law firm, Nicholas Ramcharit, told Allhiphiphiphop.
The lawsuit broke down decades of friendship between the two women, both hip-hop and fashion-style influential figures.
Hylton’s team claimed that Vado was unable to release music or earn income due to so-called interference.
