“You were chosen.”
Some people call this man a hero. He rescued a dog that was allegedly abandoned in Sequoia National Park. Why was the dog left behind? What did the man do to the dog afterwards?
@redeemed_rebel is a hairdresser in British Columbia, Canada. He is actually already a dog dad to a medium-sized black dog. So it’s no surprise that he had a soft spot for the dog when he saw it abandoned in the woods.
Dog abandoned in California redwoods
@redeemed_rebel shares with viewers the moment he discovered the dog.
“So, we have a situation. Well, I’m in the redwood forest right now and someone left a dog tied to a table and abandoned here, and it’s the sweetest thing ever. But yeah, I found the dog and it really needs care,” said @redeemed_rebel. The video has 32,000 views and nearly 1,300 likes.
The dog looked visibly malnourished, with its ribcage exposed beneath its fur. Fortunately, the dog appears to have found a new home. @redeemed_rebel posted a video, saying, “It’s like I’m sending him to a shelter.” In another video, @redeemed_rebel snuggles in bed with his old dog and this new dog, whom he named Bruce. @redeemed_rebel even took him to the vet and gave him a good bath. @redeemed_rebel seems determined to keep the dog.
“OMG I’m so glad you found him,” one commenter said.
“You were chosen in the dog mate lottery! Congratulations!” said another.
“Thank you for being a great person! I love that he is getting a fresh start and has someone who will take care of him the way he deserves,” someone else chimed in.
“I hope you find a good home with Bruce! Thank you for saving him,” someone else thanked @redeemed_rebel.
What to do if you find your dog unattended
It’s unclear exactly what steps @redeemed_rebel took after finding Bruce. However, if you find a dog unaccompanied and are not sure who it belongs to, there are some best practices to follow. The American Kennel Club offers some recommendations:
Approach the dog slowly: Check the dog’s body language to see if it poses a threat. If not, slowly approach the dog and try to catch it. Quarantine the dog: This is to ensure that other dogs or people in the home do not get sick if the lost dog has wingworms or fleas. Check the ID tag: If the dog’s ID tag has the owner’s number or address, try calling that number to contact the owner. Lost Dog Flyer: If you don’t have a chip or collar ID, an old-fashioned “lost dog” flyer near you can do the trick.
If all else fails and you don’t have the means to keep the dog, take it to a shelter.
