Lizzo is smiling with hip-hop. Rapper-turned-pop star with new mixtape My face hurt with a smile. The tape appeared as a guest from Doja Cat and Sza, found Lizzo rap and was having fun. Just in time for summer.
Last Wednesday (June 25), during the week of the project’s release, Lizzo sat down with XXL to talk about what was in her rap bag, where the champion came from and was inspired by Kendrick Lamar.
Lizzo said of how she thought of the name, “It’s just a moment that happened in the studio.” “I was going to call this project an effective crash. I was talking to my friends and they were like, ‘This is the first time we heard you’ve crashed. It’s effective, Bi **h.’ I was thinking, effective crash.
The mixtape was created within a week in early June, Lizzo said. However, during the recording process, the resonance in the studio led her to move in a different direction.
“And then, like the knees throughout the process…I flew my best friend from Houston,” Lizzo recalls. “We were doing all these vocals. We had a lot of fun. I was like, ‘My face was hurt with a smile.’ My cheeks were actually packing the whole thing.”
Lizzo also draws on the inspiration from Kendrick Lamar’s recent participation in the project.
“He always creates,” she said. “It’s really encouraging to see what he creates while he’s touring the stadium.” I said, ‘You know, Melissa? Lift your head up and go to work. He was touring the stadium and he was still hungry. This is the super inspiration for me. ”
