Lil Yachty faced public opposition earlier this week, a controversial lyric quote from George Floyd. Specifically, Floyd’s friend Stephen Jackson summoned the rapper because of his disrespect for the late George Floyd, whose death sparked global protests in 2020.

“I won’t be interviewing this,” he said in an Instagram video. “I talk to him. He’s a smart young man. He won a reason. He’s a super smart man. He made a mistake. He apologized. It’s over… He made a mistake. He made a mistake. Let go.”

Stephen Jackson said it was after Lil Yachty was called up because he mentioned his late friend George Floyd in the new song, and Stak5 revealed they spoke privately and Yachty apologized. “No interview, it’s already processed.” ✊🏾💬pic.twitter.com/su6vezohi3

The boundary in question is: “Release my knees onto her neck and I went to George Floyd,” the line almost immediately evened that social media radiated criticism.

Given the tragedy of Floyd’s death in 2020, many call it tasteless and disrespectful.

Jackson teared into Yachty online said: “Lil Yachty, brother.

He continued to yell out the broader trend he thought rap: “The only time that everyone felt like a demeanor of the dead, saying s ### is cool. That’s not.”

Jackson then warned Yachty not to say Floyd’s name again, emphasizing that the rappers actually didn’t recognize him.

“You all want to name him,” he added. “That’s some weak s ###, yachts. Let someone die in your family and we’ll do a whole short play for it. See how fun it is. Cut out S ###.”

George Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes. The incident was captured in the video, leading to widespread protests and calls for police reforms in the United States and around the world. Chauvin was later convicted of murder and sentenced to 22 years in prison.
