LeBron James exits the Metropolitan Gala, Rapper lights up the event

LeBron James missed the 2025 Met Gala with a knee injury while his wife, Savannah James, occupied the red carpet in New York.

LeBron James bowed at the 2025 Met Gala in New York on Monday night (May 5) after suffering a knee injury during the early playoff exit of the Los Angeles Lakers, despite being appointed honorary chairman of the high-profile event.

“Unfortunately, due to the knee injury I suffered at the end of the season, I will not be able to attend the Mets in New York tonight because a lot of people have been asking and congratulating me! Hate to miss a historical event!” James posted on Twitter (X).

According to ESPN, the 39-year-old NBA star revealed that he had a Level 2 MCL sprained his left knee during the Lakers’ first-round playoff defeat last week.

Setbacks ended his playoffs and lifted him off the most unique red carpet of fashion.

James hinted that after retirement, the Lakers told reporters after elimination that he needed to discuss his future with his “support group” and his family.

In his absence, James confirmed that his wife, Savannah, would represent the family at the party and said she would “overwhelm the castle like she has been doing!” He also praised her as “the beautiful queen.”

Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is the annual fundraising event for the Academy of Costume.

This year’s event celebrated the opening ceremony of “Superfine: Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” a man named Monica L.

The co-chairs at the evening included Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and longtime MET Gala Architect Anna Wintour.

Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Chance The Rapper, André3000, A$AP Rocky and other popular rap artists walked the red carpet in unique outfits.
