Chilean nationals are reportedly flying to the United States specifically to commit these crimes. Chile’s unique travel visa policy, which allows tourists to enter the country with minimal scrutiny, makes it an attractive center for individuals to join these programs. The NBA and NFL have even issued warnings to players about the threat posed by these criminal gangs. Rahmani pointed out that the cooperation of Chilean authorities is an important factor in solving this problem.
“I do think the exposure that these Chilean gangs received in media reports in Southern California certainly helped the United States put pressure on their associates in Chile to help stem this wave of thefts,” he said. “The Chilean government has such a reputation that it It’s definitely a shame.”
