Liar Dad is even more convinced that Beyoncé can’t sing, while claiming that Michael Jackson isn’t a real singer either.
Trick Daddy simply can’t help himself when it comes to questions about vocal ability, this time bringing Beyoncé and Michael Jackson into the conversation as the King of Pop’s biopic absolutely dominates the box office.
During a recent appearance on his network cooking series with Grammy-winning singer Monica, the 51-year-old Miami legend reaffirmed his long-held belief that Beyoncé simply doesn’t have what it takes to be considered a real singer, telling Monica that while Bey “isn’t terrible,” when it comes to vocal performances, she’s just “not what I’m used to.”
Trick acknowledged that Beyoncé is “an exciting performer” but refused to change his core argument that her singing abilities were not up to his standards.
Monica defended his right to hold this view, while also supporting the hive in protecting their queen.
But here’s where it gets really interesting. To make his point, Trick quoted Michael Jackson himself, who he claimed was his favorite artist of all time but insisted that even the King of Pop was “not a singer” in the traditional sense.
“I think he’s the Jesus Christ of pop music and R&B, but he’s not Luther,” said Trick, who views Luther Vandross as the gold standard of actual singing ability.
The review comes at a particularly poignant moment, as Michael Jackson’s new biopic is setting box office records worldwide, raking in more than $100 million in its opening weekend.
While audiences around the world celebrate Jackson’s legacy through movies, Trick essentially believes that MJ’s genius was everywhere but his voice.
The shot is sure to spark conversation, especially considering that Michael Jackson’s movies have sparked discussion about his artistic and cultural impact.
